This might be worth a look, there is one snag that I can see and there may be more. In 1841 there is a census in Barony, which may be him but two of the names on the census do not match below even though two others do. I have posted it below.

JOHN GRAY   MARRIED    JANET SCOTT   30/11/1783   BARONY

Children baptised BARONY
WILLIAM CHILD 114/11/1784
JOHN CHILD 2 20/08/1786
JAMES CHILD 3 5/07/1788
ISOBEL 4/07/1790, ALSO NOTED CHILD 1?
ANDREW CHILD 5 9/12/1792

Re glassmaking, I came across "Robert Gray, flint-glass maker" receiving a prize of 7/- for "a work inlaid with glass" at the Partick and Whiteinch Working Men's Exhibition in 1865.

However, he must be the Robert Gray, in the following family:

1861, Tennant Street, Glasgow:

William Gray, 48, glassmaker, b England
Mary Gray, wife, 46, b Midlothian
Jane Gray, 22, b Midlothian
Robert Gray, 19, glassmaker, b Midlothian
Catherine Gray, 18, b Midlothian
William A, Gray, 11, message boy, b Midlothian
Mary A. Gray, 7, b Glasgow

The burial registers for Sighthill Cemetery on FamilySearch: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS54-93TM-Z?cat=1315122

The registers haven't been indexed so I needed to search page by page, but I haven't spotted Robert Gray in them. It's entirely possible that I have missed him.

Sorry but again I have already found him in the 1841 census and referenced it in my original post, the family were living in Newcastle at the time.

Re glassmaking, I came across "Robert Gray, flint-glass maker" receiving a prize of 7/- for "a work inlaid with glass" at the Partick and Whiteinch Working Men's Exhibition in 1865.

Mary A. Gray, 7, b Glasgow

Thanks for looking. I think it's possible that Robert may have been a labourer in a glassworks but didn't actually do glassmaking as a trade. It's clear that his sons Edward, Richard, and Ralph were all trained glassmakers though.

Ah! Dorothy married first in 1854 to George McMillan, just before statutory registration began, but she married again to James Littlejohn in 1866 and I've just checked the record and it doesn't say that Robert Gray is deceased! So it seems he was still alive in 1866. I'd completely overlooked that record. It also says he was a flint glass maker. Thanks for making me check!
