Taylor Marshall connection
« on: Tuesday 28 March 23 20:35 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the parents of Francis Taylor or his wife Elizabeth (born Marshall).

Francis is born circa 1806 in Heckington, Lincolnshire.
Elizabeth is born circa 1804 in Fulnetby, Lincolnshire.

They marry in Sutterton, Lincolnshire on the 14th of May 1828. One of the witnesses is a Martha Marshall.

On the marriage banns, Francis is living at extra parochial land, Holland Fen.

* Here comes a bit of poking around in the dark *

Elizabeth dies in 1880 and on the 1881 census Francis is a widower lodging with a John and Ann Marshall.

On the assumption that Elizabeth and John might be connected, I looked into John and Ann's tree.

Ann's maiden name happens to be Taylor, so she may be connected to Francis.

John Marshall born in 1819 in Donington, Holland, Lincolnshire to parents William Marshall and Ann.

Ann Taylor born 1834 in Gedney, Lincolnshire, father John Taylor. In 1851 she is lodging with her aunt Sarah E Taylor, making Ann's grandparents Henry Taylor (b. 1785) and Ann Hayes (b. 1783).

Hopefully some connection can be made that leads to the parents of Francis/Elizabeth, sorry for the info dump. Thanks in advance.

I neglected to add that the 1841 census lists Francis's birth year as 1811 rather than 1805/6 on the 51/61/71/81.

There's too many parish baptism options to narrow down!

1841 Census ages were rounded not exact.

SARAH buried 17 May 1838 age 1 (poss. Sally bapt below)
HENRY MARSHALL buried 02 Feb 1845 age 2
WILLIAM MARSHALL buried 26 Apr 1847  infant
All these have abode as Fosdyke Fen*
+ a possible WILLIAM  buried 18 Apr 1829, infant, abode Kirton Fen

(source FreeREG)

1841 as you know Fosdyke Allotment we have;
Francis Taylor 30 Ag Lab
Elizabeth Taylor 35
Matilda Taylor 9
John Taylor 6
Mary Taylor 7 mths

Just posting in case you didn't have those other children to Francis/Elizabeth.

They may be a good clue to their Parents christian names.

Also at Sleaford are bapts as you likely know of their children MATILDA 1831/SALLY 1836*

Trish :)

I didn't know that about the 1841 census, I tend to take the ages with a pinch of salt anyway.

I've been building the tree in the hopes of finding more information for Francis and Elizabeth via their children, but no luck just yet.

Thank you for the list of burials, I hadn't found those at all, that's really helpful.

I'll keep looking!

Thanks again
