I am trying to find the parents of Samuel LEESE or LEES. I believe he was baptised around 1730 - 1734 at St Lawrence Church, Baddulph, Staffordshire. He was buried at St Lawrence church on 22 Jan 1785.

Any help would be very much appreciated  :)

It is worth remembering that although his children were born in Biddulph and he died there, it was not necessarily his place of birth. Biddulph is very close to the border with Cheshire.

Someone on FamilySearch has put a baptism date of 8 Oct 1732 at St Lawrence Church, Biddulph for Samuel but I cannot find a record of this and there is no source attached so yes Samuel could have been baptised somewhere else.

The image for 1732 baptisms at St Lawrence, Biddulph are available on FindMyPast.  There is one baptism on 8 October 1732 = Sarah, daughter of Joseph and Anne Leigh  :o

There is a baptism for s Samuel Lees 2 October 1737 in Astbury, parents Thomas and Mary. Astbury is ib Cheshire, 3 miles from Biddulph. Also 1737 is the year he was baptised, not necessarily the year of birth.

...  Somewhere, there should be clues of family names, given to the children.

'It was common in England, especialiy in the 18th and 19th centuries: the first son was named after the father's father.

The second son, after the mother's father, the third son after the father'
