Susannah SPONG d.1702... What do additional notes mean?
« on: Wednesday 29 March 23 12:39 BST (UK) »
Hi team,

Susannah/Susan SPONG was the first wife of my 8th gr grandfather Owen SPONG, although I can't actually find a marriage.  Susannah was buried at St. Lawrence, Chobham on 21 April 1702, as wife of Owen SPONG.

It seems in the notes it reads: Affidavit made 26 Apr.  What would this be referring to?!

Owen remarried a month later.

Think this is what it means?

Within 8 days of the burial, an affidavit had to be provided attesting that the burial complied with the Act. The affidavit had to be sworn in front of a Justice of the Peace or Mayor by two creditable persons. If the parish did not have a JP or Mayor, the parson, vicar or curate could administer the oath.
