So he died the year after that last sighting on Canada Voters List in 1957 - seemed strange we could'nt find him.

From the website:

If applying online, the certified copy of death registration does not include medical cause of death.

A certified copy of death registration with cause of death information can only be obtained by applying by mail or in person.

The deceased’s next of kin or their authorized representative may apply for a certified copy of death registration. Authorized representatives (for example, estate administrator, executor or administrator, or a person with legal guardianship acting on behalf of the deceased or an entitled individual) will be required to provide proof of authorization.

Next of kin are:

parents
spouse or common-law partner
children, and
siblings

So if you are not a next of kin, you won't be getting a certified copy which means you won't know cause of death.

Thanks Eileen - that's disappointing re. cause of death.  He had no children and his siblings and their children are all now dead.
So in effect we can never find out his cause of death - or is there a way round it ?

At least we have a date of death so can look for his burial.

Where did he die?  Perhaps an obituary will provide the info in some way.

I read your other post and see that he died in St. Catharines.  Only other option is wait another 7 years until those records become public.  Not the answer you want to hear of course.

In 1957 the year before he died he was living in Lincoln.
Various tales come down over the years - he drowned in one of The Lakes - he was murdered.
