Death Record in Ontario, Dec 1973
« on: Wednesday 29 March 23 14:36 BST (UK) »
I would like to obtain the death certificate or at least the death date for my grandfather's cousin.  He lived in either St. Mary's or Stratford, Ontario, but of course may have died in another county, perhaps in hospital.  I was told they had no record in St. Mary's or Stratford.
His full name was William Cecil Ford and he was born in Westminster, London, England on 14 Jun 1889, the son of Joseph Ford and Mary Ann Weeks.  The story was he ran away to Canada as a teenager.  He served in WWI in the Canadian army.  He never married.
According to my mother's diary, he would have died in November or December of 1973.  Wonder if anyone has access to newspapers of that time?

There are no death records online for the time frame you require.

In your searches, have you found any trace of him in Canada ?

Yes, I am aware of that.  Just wondering if something about his death made the papers.
I remember visiting him as a child in Stratford, ON, in 1969.  He also visited us in Quebec, perhaps the next year, somewhere there is a photo.  My uncle tracked him down, my father's immediate family was born in England and came over in the 1920's.
I have it in my mind that he also lived in St. Mary's, not far from Stratford.  He worked on a farm.  When he enlisted for WWI, he lived in Granton, which is near St. Mary's.  He signed up in London, ON.

Excellent dbree - I didn't see his file. Perhaps I need the opticians again.  :-\

;D ;D went by the death twice before I picked it up Sandra.

I found it on Ancestry, but you can see it through Library and Archives Canada, page 53
Department of Veterans Affairs Death Notice.
https://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?op=pdf&app=CEF&id=B3194-S031

There is a listing for William C. Ford d. 1975 St. Mary's, in the London Middlesex obits search

** Added.  The above link doesn't seem to be working, try this one instead

You may want to try the London Public Library for an obit. in the London Free Press. They have been very helpful in the past.

Thank you for this.  It does seem to be Billy, although I could have sworn my mother's diary entry was from late 1973!  Guess I will have a look at them again.
When he signed up he left off his middle name, and shaved two years off his birth date.
I actually live in London, ON so perhaps I can access the obit in person.
