« on: Thursday 30 March 23 15:31 BST (UK) »
Hi All looking for help again, this time with my 3rd great grandfather Thomas Hill probably born about 1808 in Howden Yorkshire I believe he married a Elizabeth Thompson in 1832 in Howden I have him on my 2nd great grandmothers marriage certificate Eliza Hill married to Thomas Robinson 4th Jan 1863 fathers name Thomas Hill occupation Tailor I can find what I think is a match in 1841/1851/1861 all in Sheffield all occupation Tailor/Journyman but cant tie him or his wife Elizabeth down after that on a census in 1871 or get a good match for his or his wifes death with Hill being a common name tried Sheffielindexers for burials but again nothing concrete pulling my hair out I have knocked him off and started again twice but keep coming back to his occupation as the best thing for me to go on any help would be great. Hi,

If I'm looking at the right family in 1861, they are living in Ecclesall Bierlow. I think this could be the death and burial of Thomas,

Thomas HILL    Jun Q 1863    Ecclesall Bierlow    9c  166
Age:  55

St Mary, Sheffield
Thomas HILL
Burial date:  03 May 1863
Age:  55

Regards,
Daisy

but cant tie him or his wife Elizabeth down after that on a census in 1871

Have you found all the children in 1871?  If Elizabeth was widowed she may have gone to live with a son or daughter.

Nightmare Milliepede, using Thomas Hill occupation and wife and children I believe I have them all together in 1841 1851 1861 I found a Uk, City and County Directories for a Thomas Hill 1862 Occupation Tailor on Milton Street Sheffield which is where they were living in 1861 I believe Thomas probably died 1863 it's the wife I am struggling on now as in 1841 she is down as born yorkshire in 1851 it says born Rivertrig Yorkshire then 1861 it says born Exeter Irsder I then found another possible record for Eliazebeth in 1891 aged 77 born River Brig, Yorkshire with 2 children Maria Hill aged 32 born 1859 which is not far off but another child I have never heard off named Iscaca Hill aged 44 born 1847 which could be a trancript error as I cant read it clearly Sheffield, Nether Hallam, Yorkshire, England a real head scratcher this lot.

I think that River Trig could be Rivelin

Is this the 1841 census you have?

The address is Trinity St

Thomas Hill 31 Journeyman tailor
Elizabeth Hill 30
John Hill 8
Sarah Hill 5
Eliza Hill 2

Could you please post the census you have as I’m struggling to find them apart from the 1841 and possible 1891.

I then found another possible record for Eliazebeth in 1891 aged 77 born River Brig, Yorkshire with 2 children Maria Hill aged 32 born 1859 which is not far off but another child I have never heard off named Iscaca Hill aged 44 born 1847 which could be a trancript error as I cant read it

Yes I can see that one too.  I wondered if it was Jessica but doesn't look like that  :-\

Do we have a daughter born around that time - if so the name is probably meant to be her.
