Edward Bowry or Skuse
« on: Friday 31 March 23 17:06 BST (UK) »
Just need someone to check I'm not going mad.
Researching Bowry tree I found Edward S (possibly L but think it is S)  Bowry b 1836 in the 1851 census in St Pancras living with parents Samuel & Eliza and a number of siblings.  Samuel being the direct line.
Now that's the only record I can immediately find.
Ancestry is giving me hints for an Edward Skuse who fits birth year in the censuses.  Now I know hints can often be a bit off but there must be a reason it thinks he's the same person.   There's a hint to 1841 census which is obviously the one with least details but clicking into it. it is for Samuel & Eliza Skuse with child Edward (& John who was also on 1851).  Someone has made a suggested correction to Bowry. No explanation I can see.
I'm now wondering if there's two families here, or if I'm barking up the wrong tree.  Skuse surname has never come up in the tree before.

In 1841 the family are clearly Skuse on the image but Bowry is also shown on the transcription as an alternative name.

In 1851 they are clearly Bowry on the image.  I wonder if Samuel was illegit & used his birth surname or possibly his mothers later married name??

EDIT

1861 - back to Skuse

If someone has this information on their tree and it is wrong and others copy it then it will appear in Ancestry's hints.

In 1841 there is also a 5yr old son John which does not fit the 1839 marriage of Samuel Skuse to Elizabeth Teramlin??

Eliza Skuse widow married Samuel Bowry in 1843.  Her father is shown as Ralph Deighton

EDIT
Re your Edward Bowry - who did he marry & when?  Is his father shown as Samuel on the marriage cert & if so - what was Samuel’s occupation

Eliza Skuse widow married Samuel Bowry in 1843.  Her father is son as Ralph Deighton

Ah so Edward probably child of earlier marriage (or at least different Father).  That would make sense then.  Just to need to work that through my tree !

1851 incorrectly shows all children as Bowry whereas John & Edward were born to Eliza’s previous marriage to Samuel Skuse

1851 has younger Bowry children born after the 1843 marriage  - one of whom is Eliza DEIGHTON Bowry b 14.1.1846 & baptised 3.8.46 - parents Samuel - occ carman - & Eliza
