Margaret James Plasbach
« on: Friday 31 March 23 21:59 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for Margaret James (nee Rees) of Plasbach, Llanelly (possibly Llandefeilog) in 1841 and also possibly 1851, but she may have died by then. I know she was alive in 1848 as she named in some court documents, where it also states she is a widow. She married David James a mariner of Llangunnor in Llanelli in 1787. Therefore, probably born 1766 or earlier.

Thank you

Deleted as not correct if she is a widow in 1848.

Are you sure that your Margaret is the one at Plas Bach?

Thank you very much for this.

Are you querying because of her age in 1841 which meant she would have only been 11 in 1787 if I have the correct marriage? I am pretty confident they are the correct pairing, but maybe I have the wrong marriage (but it is the only one I can find)?

I have attached an extract from the document I referred to. Margaret is also mentioned as the grandaughter of Catherine Rees of Foy’s Will in 1788 (apologies, corrected from 1808). The Will also states she was married to David James and that they are left the lease to Plasbach.

“To grandaughter Margaret, wife of David James, lease on tenement called Plesbach, lying in p. Llangendeirne and Llanelly”

What do you think? Could it be her age is just wrong in 1841. I know ages in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5 so that could make her 69, but that would still only make her 15, if I have the correct marriage. Perhaps I have missed a marriage entry?

The marriage (3 April 1787)  shows the witnesses as  Jno Rees and Wm Rees. David of Llangunner and Margaret of Llanelly

If she was circa 65 in 1841, she would be 11-ish at marriage. She could have fibbed about her age on the census.

Questions:
Do you have a list of their children?

Do you know if David left a will?

Is the younger David, aged 25 on the 1841, their son?

I'll let you scout round, Trish.  I prefer to look in places that I'm familiar with and I'm better in North Wales and I must get on with the day - Mr G is signalling   :D

None of the Margarets that I looked at in the 1851 seemed to match. Als, Street listings on the 1851 didn''t help.l

Thanks Gadget but I am no Wales expert at all !

I think the earlier Death Reg is likely be Margaret as David born c 1811 Llanelly by 1851 Census seems to have taken over the Farm.
His Father in Law is there also.

Regards,
Trish :)
