PICTURES OF CHILDRENS' HOMES
« on: Saturday 01 April 23 16:37 BST (UK) »
Resident in the 1939 Register, I have an address for two distant relatives who were then living in children's' homes.

1.   Three Ways Cottages Children's Home, Frome, Somerset

2.   St Elizabeth's Home, Redcatch Road, Bristol

Using Google I've had little luck with the history of these two homes.   In particular and ideally, a picture.

Grateful for help

Try here - you need to scroll down quite a bit for ‘Three Ways House’

Just realised though -that is Bath!

That looks promising then, Rosie, with the link I gave. There’s a little map too. :)

No picture I'm afraid, however there are a few advertisments for positions vacant at the St Elizabeth's Home, Knowle (I'm assuming this the one on Redcatch Rd). eg:

"WORKING MATRON wanted in babies home, superintend housework, some laundry work. Not over 30. Anglo-Catholic. Sister. St Elizabeth's Home, Knowle"
   Thursday,  May 4, 1933
Publication: Western Daily Press

"AS KITCHEN or Under Housemaid in school or institution preferred neighbourhood of Bristol. Apply Atkiss - St Elizabeth's Home, Knowle, Bristol."
   Saturday,  Jan. 13, 1934
Publication: Western Daily Press

Also a James Henry POCOCK in trouble for "improper conduct to a nurse-girl" aged 17, at St Elizabeth's Home, Knowle. Sentenced to 1 month imprisonment.
Friday,  Jan. 31, 1920
Publication: Western Daily Press

Not a picture of the Home, however this group donated funds for 2 cots for the Home. Deputy Warden Don BURT had died in the war and instead of floral tributes, they donated money to the Home.

Where possible I like to illustrate my family research.   Not much success this time but many thanks for your replies.

It depends what you call success.

As Rosie says, there is a map, a photo and in present times, a school of a similar name in the area.

The hotel has an old photo and some history re St Elizabeth’s. You might find more by searching now there is a context.
