Good morning Jorose,  Very, very interesting!  How did you get to this page about Emmanuel Holmes.  I did have a relation called Annis Cornall, which is quite unique so will be following up this one.

Hello Ploppy (and good evening)
Yes, Full age meant 21 years or over. But I would not take it too seriously. At this time in history people often did not know their exact age or birth date. Also, I have seen endless examples of ages being put down in order to marry legally at full age.

If Maria is recorded as Myrah on her gravestone, it does make that baptism for Miah look more possible. Have a look again at the baptism I posted – she was born 31 Dec 1852 and baptised 20 Feb 1853.
Parents names are recorded as Andrew Jackson and Sarah. ( I don’t understand your comments about a Roman Catholic church in Bury??)
I could see no more children for Andrew Jackson and Sarah, nor a suitable marriage. It is possible they were not married – and this would explain why Miah was being raised in the home of a relative Robert Jackson. It would also explain why Maria / Miah could not name her father on her marriage – perhaps she either didn’t remember him or never knew him.

I don’t believe Robert Jackson and Nancy (2nd wife) were Miah’s parents, but there does seem to be family connection there – which is why little 2 year old Mary Cornall was with them in 1881. There is also the link with the abode – Ramsbottom, and the occupation in the weaving / fabric industry.
Robert Jackson was born in 1808, and (from memory) he was previously married to an Ann. (Robert’s baptism is below).

I ran out of time today, so I have not yet followed up on Robert Jackson and his family, or his first wife. I will look again later. There are other RootsChatter here looking, so someone may come along with more information in the meanwhile.

Baptism: 11 May 1808 St Anne, Turton, Lancashire, England
Robert Jackson - Son of Robert Jackson & Jane
    Abode: Edgworth
    Register: Baptisms 1770 - 1812

Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Good morning mckha489,  I had seen the word "clammer" previously and had wondered what it was.  So he worked in a colliery - that is helpful.  Thanks

For you to look at:

1851
MAYBE this one??  (Holcombe is a village in Ramsbottom ward, of Greater Manchester)

Baptism: 20 Feb 1853 Emmanuel, Holcombe, Lancashire, England
Mia Jackson - Daughter of Andrew Jackson & Sarah
    Born: 31 Dec 1852
    Abode: Regent St. Salford
    Occupation: Dyer
    Baptised by: G. Nightingale Incumbent
    Register: Baptisms 1835 - 1858, Page 257, Entry 2050
Source: Original Parish Register at Manchester Archives

1851 2212/113/21
Tottington Lower End
Andrew Jackson 20yrs Dyer of Calico Print b Bury
He is unmarried and living with mother, Olive, also unmarried and sibling.

In earlier census, he has a sister, Miah.

There is this birth 1853 March quarter, Salford (Regent Road sub-district)
Myra Jackson with mothers name Davies  :-\

*just to add that you say that the church is ‘very Roman Catholic’ but Bury Parish church, Anglican, is St Mary the Virgin.
The Catholic Church is St Marie’s.

I think that 1851 census looks very good – right place, right occupation, right age.

Baptism: 19 Apr 1828 St Anne, Turton, Lancashire, England
Andrew Jackson - Son of Olive Jackson
    Abode: Tottington
    Occupation: Weaver
    Baptised by: James Spencer Curate
    Register: Baptisms 1813 - 1831 from the Bishop's Transcripts, Page 161, Entry 1288
    Source: LDS Film 1545461

Olive Jackson seems to have had a few children, but I don’t think she was married. Her daughter Miah died at age 13 in Feb 1847. Reasonable to think the name would be used for Olive’s grand-daughter.

Andrew Jackson age 31, a bachelor, occupation dyer, actually married on 7 march 1859 to Mary Edwards in Manchester. He possibly invented a father named Henry Jackson (weaver) for his marriage.

I think that Andrew’s mother Olive Jackson was the sister of Robert Jackson who was caring for Miah/Maria. This is the family link we were looking for.

Baptism: 6 Nov 1796 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England
Olive Jackson - Daughter of Robert Jackson

    Abode: Tott.

Burial: 16 Dec 1871 Emmanuel, Holcombe, Lancashire, England
Olive Jackson -
    Age: 70
    Abode: Bury
    Grave: 132
    Buried by: Thos. Wolstencroft
    Register: Burials 1870 - 1902, Page 24, Entry 191

That also looks very good Heywood.

I suspect the mother might have been Sarah DAVIES born 1833 Holywell Flintshire Wales
In 1861 census she is an unmarried house servant for the HEDGES family at Regent Road Salford which is the address given on Miah's baptism.

As I recall, the other child in the Andrew Jackson household in 1861 has mmn Davis/Davies and there is a death for Sarah Jackson prior to his marriage to Mary Edwards.
