After looking at the information I have, it would seem that Jane Potts is not the 'Jane' I am looking for.

I had thought that she had married John Bell in 1816 (he 24 yrs and she 30 yrs).  I have since found a death for a Jane Bell in 1864 "Widow of John Bell Wood Turner" Middle Hendon 13th July; aged 77 yrs.
He was a timber merchant/wood turner for many years.

However, in 1841 she states her age as 50 yrs;  in 1851 she states her age as 63 yrs.

In 1861 Bishopwearmouth Jane Bell is a visitor; widow aged 73 yrs b. Lamsley (as in 1851 census)  with a Margaret Hunter (who is 68 yrs).  Margaret Hunter was a neighbour in 1851 census living at 8 Stockton Road.

For years her maiden name has eluded me.  It was just a thought that I had the right one this time; but alas I don't think so.

I've Just noticed that Margaret Hunter with husband Robert were living with John and Jane Bell in 1841 census at the Victoria Villa, Bishopwearmouth.  Robert is stated to be a 'gentleman'.   So this confirms that the Margaret Hunter and Jane Bell in 1861 is definitely the right two couples.

After looking at the marriage of Jane Potts in 1816 to John Bell, I am still very interested in this couple and trying to establish whether Jane Potts was a widow at the time of her marriage to John Bell.
Marriage Chester-le-Street District
Record Number 186243.1
Church, St Mary and St Cuthbert
Anglican
30 Nov 1816 John Bell age 24 yrs married Jane Potts, age 30.  Witnesses George Middleton Mary Elizabeth Pybus and Richard Pybus.

Can anyone find out if Jane was a widow when she married John Bell?  Tks
