I've been trying to research all my lines back to their country of origin and I've done pretty well. But I've reached an impasse with one German ancestor, and was wondering if anyone might have any guidance. Here's the background.
Friedrich Wilhelm Sandwisch was born in Bramsche Germany in 1819 and came to the US in 1836. He lived and worked in Buffalo, New York for a few years. The 1840 census shows him living in Troy Township, Wood County, Ohio, and the 1850 census shows him in Woodville, Sandusky County, Ohio where he lived the rest of his life. While in Buffalo her married Maria Louise Clousing. I found the entry in the the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church record in Buffalo. They had three children, but she ended up dying on October 24, 1855. Her tombstone lists her age as 40 years, 2 months, and 8 days which I figure is approximately August 15, 1815. The name on her tombstone is A.M. Luwiese Sandwisch. I found a family register from the local Lutheran church which lists her birthdate as 1814 and taking place in Arenhorst, Osnabruck.
I've tried to find a passenger list with her name on it (I assume she came over with her family, but I could be wrong), but I can't seem to find any matches before 1839. I've tried searching several variations of Clausing and Klausing, and several forms of her first name, but to no success. I also looked through the baptisms of the year 1814 and 1815 in the Arenshort church records at Archie and found nothing. But my ability to read the old German script is not really that good, so it's possible I missed it. Does anyone have any suggestions or idea so of where to look next?
