Daniel Booth
« on: Tuesday 04 April 23 20:08 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,
I have been researching my gt gt grandfather, Daniel Booth for more than 30 years.  He married my gt gt grandmother, Elizabeth Martin in St. Nicholas Church in February 1826.  In May1828 they had twins - a son, Robert baptised at St. Peters C of E and a daughter, Mary baptised at St Peters RC.  Obviously a mixed marriage!  The next time they hit the records was the Baptism of Henry at Old Haymarket on 4th September 1939.  Henry died on 22nd September - just three weeks later.  On his death Certificate it was said he was 17 months old.  Daniel was never seen in the records after that.  I have several ideas about him - he could have jumped ship and gone to sea, he could have just scarpered or he could have been a bigamist.  Elizabeth had another child around 1844/5 but it may or may not have been Daniel's.  She said she was married in 1841 but a widow in 1851.  On the 1841 census Elizabeth had two other sons for whom I can find no record (one of them my gt  grandfather.
Has anyone any ideas?

Think you mean Henry was baptised 1829 - not 1939 ;D

No marital status was shown for anybody in 1841 so Elizabeth could already have been widowed

If Mary was b 1828 - she is not with the family in 1841

Children in 1841 were:

Robert 15
John 11
William 8

The 1826 marriage & the 1828 baptism of Robert show Daniel was a shoe maker - Henry’s baptism he was a mariner

Yes, sorry - Henry was baptised in 1839. On his death cert. Elizabeth said Daniel was a shoemaker.
Mary died aged 7 months and was buried in Old Haymarket as a Papist.  In all the children's marriage certs Daniel was described as a shoemaker and deceased.  The two father's listed above Henry's baptism were mariners - did the curate suspect Daniel was too (if he failed to ask him).

Elizabeth had another child around 1844/5 but it may or may not have been Daniel's.

Looks like it wasn't!
He has a completely different surname in 1861, looks like Blaick.
George H Blaick, Son, 16, French Polisher, born Liverpool
Mum Elizabeth Booth also has a sister and nephew with her.

Possible birth reg in 1845 as Blalock, and just named Henry

Well, there is a candidate in Liverpool for George "Blalock"
1841, Westmoreland Street
George Blaylock 35 Labourer, Not born county
Mary Blaylock 35 Yes
William Blaylock 4 Yes
Harriet Blaylock 9 mos Yes

1851, not sure exact spelling, Blelach on ancestry. In Vernon Street
George Blalock Head Widr 44 Dock Labr Cheshire Bunbury
William Blalock Son 12 School Boy Lancashire Liverpool

1861, Rainford Gardens
George Bleloch Head Mar 54 Dock Lab Cheshire Ridley
Alice Bleloch Wife Mar 47 Lancashire Ormskirk

George Blaylock died in Liverpool workhouse, 22 Dec 1877.
Buried at Walton Park Cemetery, 27 Dec 1877. Age 71.

There is a burial of a Mary Blaylock in Liverpool, 24 March 1844. Age 32.
Is that George's wife? He was widowed in 1851.
Did the widowed George then have a relationship with Elizabeth Booth nee Martin, with son George Henry being born the following year?

George did indeed remarry, to Alice Chapman, a widow, at Holy Trinity, Liverpool, in 1852.
First marriage was also at Holy Trinity, in 1835, to Mary Garner.
Both marriages have him as George Blelock, Flour Dealer.
Maybe he was recorded as Blelock in 1851.

The 1826 marriage & the 1828 baptism of Robert show Daniel was a shoe maker - Henry’s baptism he was a mariner

Here's the baptism of Henry
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-D15S-T7

Father Daniel a Mariner.

Death of Henry
BOOTH, HENRY
Age at Death (in years): 1
GRO Reference: 1839  S Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 20  Page 272

I have the certificate of Henry's death in September 1839.  It gives 'son of Daniel Booth - bootmaker'  Elizabeth registered and made her mark, address given as 10 Circus street, Liverpool.

Is there a burial of Henry online?

On their mariages in 1856, Robert and William Booth said father Daniel was a shoemaker/bootmaker.
If John is the chap who married Harriet Owen in 1853, he said Daniel was a mariner (John himself was a mariner)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9DF-KWM7

Could the Daniel the bootmaker have become a mariner?

Bootmaker to mariner just does not add up

And he is a bootmaker on Henry's death cert.

Hmm.

Maybe Henry wasn't a natural son of Daniel, and Daniel died earlier than you think.

That's another possibility. Or he had simply left the family home.
