I have Lucy Elizabeth Matthews, married to Frederick Charles Stannard in 1904 in Tower Hamlets gives George Matthew as her father, occupation is type founder. Lucy was born 10 Aug 1881 (from 1939 register) in Hackney? Her marriage to

I know from GRO that her mother's maiden name was Radley and I have her mother, Lucy Mary Matthews (nee Radley) living with George Matthews born c1878 and husband George Matthews born c1847 in Middlesex (no other info) on the 1881 census in Hackney. I believe that these are Lucy Elizabeth's parents as George has MMN as Radley also. George senior's occupation is given as type founder, which ties in with Lucy Elizabeth's marriage registration. Do you agree?

Unfortunately Lucy Mary is living with Lucy Elizabeth and son George, 1878, without her husband? She says she is married and not widowed. I can't find George her husband.

If Lucy Mary Radley is the Lucy on the 1881 and 1891 censuses that I've found, then I have all of her ancestors.

However, I'm stumped with George Matthews. I can't find him on other than the 1881 census and can't find his marriage to Lucy Mary Radley. Just to complicate things, she is born in Dulverton Somerset. (Although on one of the censuses, she says Bethnal Green 🤦
So,icant get back any further on my friend's family tree with him.

Would be really grateful if anyone can find George 🤞

Thanks

Ancestry have his birth as c1844 on 1881

There's a George Matthews b c1846 in and out of the Hackney Workhouse from 1889 onwards. Admission register for Jan 1890 - Jan 1891 admission notes wife Lucy of 13 Palace Rd, Well St. He moves to the infirmary in Jan 1891 and is back to the workhouse in May (occupation type founder)

Last discharge from that workhouse is Feb 1893 - back to the infirmary
