There's also a stamp saying 'Dead' which is then initialled and dated 23/06/1924, if that helps.

'DEAD' on a pension card more often than not means that it is the pension claim that is dead and not the man.

You may well be right.  There is another document I hadn't initially spotted as its indexed as Iroin Lockwood (same service number).  This has a Dormant stamp on it and a separate note saying 'final closed notice sent 18.10.22'

He was still alive when the 1939 National Register was taken:-

Irvin Lockwood - DOB 6/7/1890
Beatrice A Lockwood - DOB 22/6/1891
Residence - Knotty Lane, Lepton

No children listed

Irvin married Beatrice A Haigh, Quarter 4, 1919, Huddersfield District, Volume 9a, Page 894

But his widow does seem to have left a will in 1974 which may give clues  to any relations

Hello, I came across this by accident. My grandmother, Sarah Ellen, was the sister of Irvin Lockwood of Knotty Lane, Lepton. We visited his wife, Auntie Beatrice, regularly at the Knotty Lane House (where the Lockwoods had resided for at least a couple of generations before). My father, Billie, was born in that house. I have photographs of Irvin as a young man. I never knew he had a medal. I'm new to this site - are we able to communicate privately?
