I have had a reply already from the Wolverhampton Archives but unfortunately they could not find "anything in our records about what 'of the Lanes' may be referring to.  I'd imagine this was local slang for an area that isn't documented."

mckha489 replied with Lanesfield as a possible area and it looks like that's a good possibility.
