Hi Donna,

It might be a good idea to start a new thread regarding your query, as this one is over 10 years old and doesn't specifically relate to the Lostitch family.

Organ grinders car.

A Spanish organ grinder, stated in court to have a caravan, a 16hp car and plenty of money, was remanded at Brighton yesterday on charge of begging.

His wife, in Romany costume, stood with him in court.

He was 48 year old Joseph Lostitch, a native of Madrid. He pleaded not guilty to begging at Saltdean and to allowing his daughter Joan, aged 4, and Annie, aged 14 to receive alms.

Lostitch had 8 children and had been in England since 1913.

He and his wife, as aliens roaming the country, had to register in any district in which they stayed for more than 24 hours, but they last registered at Portmadoc, North Wales, in June.

When bail was granted pending enquiries, Lostitch pulled out his wallet and handed over £5.

Lostitch told the magistrates he took his children to see the sea. He took the barrel organ to carry the younger child. He saw someone give one of the children some money.
