Welcome to RootsChat from me, Mrsgrew  :)

Charles's 1936 birth registration would need to be ordered via www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk There is a 100 yr rule to view images of births online.

Colin's details look promising for you to follow up on.

Have you got Charles's marriage registration to check on his father's name? Was this in England rather than Scotland? Added: See from your tree on Ancestry that you are showing his father as George.

DOBBIE FAMILY DUNFERMLINE FIFE 1921
GEORGE C   M   46
JANET B   F   45
ISA C   F   14
JOHN   M   16
GEORGE C   M   8

Colin

I think this is George Callander Dobbie and wife Janet Black, paternal grandparents of Charles on the 1901 census:

George C Dobbie 26 saddler b. Dunfermline
Janet B Dobbie 25

Address: 18 Reform St, Dunfermline, Fife

They married 14 July 1897 in Dunfermline, Fife.

From the data set Scotland, Burial Monument Inscriptions, 1507-2019 on Ancestry, there is a photo of the gravestone for them www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/207465:62497

The inscription reads:

Dobbie - In Loving Memory of My Dear Husband George Callander Dobbie, Saddler D. At 57 Couston Street 6.9.1939 Aged 65. Also Our Daughter Catherine Barclay D. 12.7.1905 Aged 2 and Janet Black Wife of the Above D. 19.5.1960 Aged 84. Till We Meet Again

The Scots like to use surnames as middle names. Very often they come from the maternal side. In this case, George Snr's birth entry in 1874 shows his mother as Isabella Callander:

George Callander Dobbie
Birth 3 Jul 1874 Dunfermline, Fife
Father John Dobbie
Mother Isabella Callander

If I can give you some advice when searching on Scotlands People. SP's wildcard symbol is an asterisk (*).  I would search the Dobbie surname as Dob*ie as it is coming up with both spellings on the indexes.
