Hi Gadget,

I don’t know the date of the photo of Thomas and Mary (his wife). It is a small cameo-style photo which might well be from some years before they married. Mary was born in 1891.

My grandparents were engaged several years before wedding this couple could have had engagement photo taken earlier .

If Thomas was a soldier in WW1
It could have been taken before enlistment.

I don’t know why there might have been a considerable gap between their having this photo taken and the date of their marriage, but in Thomas’s case it wasn’t due to his serving in the war because he was deemed unfit to serve (flat feet, I think).

   I don't think it is unusual to have long courtships. My husband & I didn't marry for several years...
looking at all 3 of these pics, similar nose width & shadows, large lips, eye shape are very similar.
   He or someone in the family may have scratched at the image because they didn't like it. Not an unusual thing to have happen, as I have seen it before. It was also folded as though discarded, but perhaps a loved one salvaged it.

It's a pity the couple pic didn't show their hands. Is there anything on the back that gives any info?

Looking at them again - the young TW and the cricketer (rt on the top strip) have the same parting line in their hair.

Thanks for all of the help. Nothing on the back of the photo, unfortunately. Incidentally, I don’t think that the damage would have been deliberate. He was a lovely man and there would have been no-one to damage the photo who would have wished to as far as I know.
