William + Pearline Lightbourne
« on: Saturday 08 April 23 21:04 BST (UK) »
Willie lightbourne heads this list but what is the title

Relation to head seems to say none for him
Then it's a list of mostly husband  labourer & wife laundress

His 3 year old daughter Pearline is much further down the list after fanny Johnson  what does it say after her name ?

I.couldnt fit all on one page so it's 2 attachments
It is Florida census 1935
Precinct 4 Dade

I seem to have cut off the sentence I wanted to understand and only posted 1 screen shot sorry
I wanted to know what it gave as Fanny's status 2 lines above 3 year old
Here is the list of names

I had  seen the 1940 which seems to be 1 family the 1935 is a whole bunch of people

Oh I can make it out now

But I can't get on to all the changes that have been made on family search
I see one was to change the wording to African American ..tho technically Willie LIGHTBOURN was  born in British West Indies  according to this and other records

It says his wife was at same place 5 years previously and there is a x by her name so Anguilla is wrong

According to Willie's naturalization he entered USA in 1915 as William Johnson so I thought Fanny could be her sister

Very faint in 1935 could say  servant sister or mother
But even then not clear who to

Trying to line up the people with image on 1940 to see if it makes more sense
The smith step  children must belong to " Aguilar" from a previous marriage

Pearline is down as Wllie's step daughter and her surname now SMITH

Aaagh what a tangle

Not having much luck with family search it's not letting me look at the alterations or at individual people

But I did look at the next page and found LC Johnson also born west indies with wife and child  so that's more family members

Pearline SMITH step daughter  is listed as 7
I don't know who her parents really are ! But her son's DNA links to JOHNSONs

+ Willie acknowledges her as his only daughter in naturalization submission

The 1935 appears to have everyone scrambled.
If you look beside Willie's name, it gives an address of "shacks", but doesn't seem to identify between each "shack".  Unlike other countries, no one is designated as "head", just how they fit into the family.
The huge gap between Willie and Pearline makes it look like they are not living together, but they possibly could be, given the lack of who is where.

All that said, I think the relationship for Pearline is Drt.   There is more than one person writing the names, some have beautiful printing, others scribble.  The scribblers are putting Drt. or drt. for daughters. The periods after the letters are big, making it almost look like another letter.  One of the scribblers, when making a capital D looks more like a "12".

As for the relationship of Fanny, I would guess at "roomer", but only because I can't figure anything else better!  There are a couple of entries that MIGHT be the same word for other random people in that census which I have attached for people to squint at, and hopefully come up with something better!

Thanks that looks right

I've not progressed finding Fanny or aiguilera elsewhere

I've moved on to  Thomas L JOHNSON family in 1940
I think the Doris listed as wife in 1940 is actually daughter Dorris listed as born between 1910 + 1915

Found lots of records with Charles wife listed as Lula or Lucy she and elder children also born in Nasau west indies

Thanks for your help and making it clearer

Just in case it helps, and you don't have it... In 1920 William Lightburn  with Grandmother Priscilla Johnson.  Both arrived from BWI, Bahamas in 1913.
