That was quick. .... thank you. AS you say, I wonder why he went all the way to Isligton to get married and only live with his wife for such a short time.

Hesitate to speculate but she was a minor when they married, maybe she was pregnant (or thought she was) and he did the decent thing but no baby was born and they separated.

In 1875 an Alfred Milnthorp is described as "a farmer and maltster of Greenfield House, Tollerton" (York Herald).
In 1889 an "Alfred Milnthorp, Harrogate" became a life member of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. (York Herald, 1879).

1926. Although the service for Mary Ann Milnthorp  was held at Histon Church she buried in the family vaullt in Highgate cemetery.

Can anyone see Mary Ann Matthews 1848 in the 1851 and 1861 census.
Her parents were Richard and Lucy Maria Matthews (Heald).
In 1851 Richard was staying with his in-laws in Garston, West Derby and Lucy Maria died in 1859 (Islington). occ Barister at Law ........ I couldn't read the rest of his occupation.
Mary Ann had a sister Alice Maria (1854).
