I see and take in your points Jebber and bridgidmac, they are really valid and yes poor people cannot afford the more expensive initially but cheaper in the long run alternatives.
However you see people buying sandwiches ,at extortionate prices, now I do feel that it would be cheaper to make those at home ,even if to use up say a small pack of ham, you would have the same kind of sandwich  for three or so days .
I invested in a small oven and grill, I seldom use the 60cm wide oven, except for the rare occasions when I do big roasts and large cakes eg ,the big fruit cakes for Christmas etc and the large trays of 20 mince pies .

Take- always do seem expensive to me and delivered pizzas!!!

But as you say those with the greatest need have the poorer chance of being able to budget.
I believe that to rent a TV , only very large screens are available  which seems to some people a needless extravagance but if buying is not possible then the only option is to do without .
 That is not fair.
So many holidays advertised, yet people must  be finding  it difficult  to manage everyday things ,so who can afford to take them up?

Not me for one.
Hearthstone Edge is where I will be this Summer ( that is Lanky for home .).
Viktoria.
I am waiting for a gas engineer and can’t settle to start anything  ::)

At the moment the biggest thing that is annoying me is the 3  for  the price of 2 in supermarkets, not catering for   pensioners or people living on their own

I am extremely fortunate, I can afford to buy whatever I like, but still hate waste. I do sometimes take advantage of 3 for 2 offers on non perishable food, I send the the excess to the food bank so someone else gets the advantage.

I can afford to buy whatever it is but it is the waste, I won't eat 15 oranges, 3 boxes of grapes and so on, non perishables are ok but there are plenty of people who just want 1 item and they have to pay full price,  some can ill afford to buy 3 even if they do give  it to a food bank

That's a lovely thing to do jebber

Viktoria I'm guilty of package sandwich buying too but get them in a meal deal + chose  the most expensive or nutricious smoothie + snack to accompany them ( eggs .olives or pasties which is a second meal for me  ) selection.i couldn't make sandwiches cheaper without wastage

But wish there were options with biodegradable packaging

My neighbour has food bank things once a week if they give him oat milk he gives it to me and I share my sister's home made stew .

Yesterday I treated him to a delivered pizza
As it was 2 for 1 Tuesday

They were delicious and we both had leftovers for lunch .so it could become a monthly treat .

When I fostered I also did a few hours work and the monthly pay meant we could have cakes !

So a lot of your no no's are  yes yes es for me

LM. One of my gripes is Lemons, if you want unwaxed lemons  they nearly always  come in fives or three, yet  you can buy individual waxed lemons. I either have to buy a bag and freeze the grated rind and juice of the extra ones, or buy waxed and soak in hot water until the wax softens enough to scrub off.

I’m sure single ones must be available if you hunt for them, but I have to rely on shopping online which limits the choice, I can’t ask someone else to traipse around the shops looking for me. I’m sure other people have similar problems when shopping online. ::)

Oh, how I agree with you brigidmac about packaging.

I recycle everything possible, but recently had an annoying experience. I had some fish come on a recyclable tray covered in non recyclable plastic film. No matter how hard I tugged  and pulled at the covering film, there was no way it would separate from the tray, so the whole thing had to go in the general rubbish. The only way I could get the fish out was running a sharp knife around it.

Colleague told me yesterday that our travel pass that we buy for work has shot right up in price.  Last night on the way home I checked it out at a ticket machine at the Haymarket metro station.  I hoped she had got confused somehow.  However, she was right!  The pass used to cost £104.50 but it has now shot up to £122.20.  This is the biggest rise ever!😱  I don't know how people are expected to afford things like this on top of other bills hikes and soaring food prices.
The shock of this brought on a headache and I had trouble getting off to sleep last night and woke far too early this morning for work.
No wonder April 1st was dubbed 'April Cruels Day'.😒

Jebber, I regularly buy salmon that comes in this kind of packaging. I leave it to soak in the hot water I've used for wiping the worktops, it softens the film and you can pull it off.

RTL, that's a shocking increase, I'm sorry it caused you such a sleepless night.
