Hello Rootchatters,

This is a 1626 Scottish document that I have tackled and have been able to complete 95% of the transliteration. But, there are 41 words I just can't seem to be able to decipher on my own.  I have highlighted the troublesome words in yellow. Any help is greatly appreciated.  There are 8 parts in total that I need help with so I'll post 4 in this post and 4 in my next post.  Some of the parts only need one word deciphering.  :)

Thank you.

In earlier times rent was paid in actual cheese, geese, stirks etc., but by the 16th century it was growing common to accept the rent in the money equivalent, as here.

Hi, GR2

Thank you so much once again for your generous assistance.  Out of the 951 words in this Testament Testamentar and Inventory I couldn't make out the 41 words highlighted.  You have helped tremendously in cracking this man's penmanship.

I went back and looked again at the fourth part and I wonder if the three words highlighted that you had difficulty with at the beginning of the line could be "mair to him"?  He's penmanship really is tricky and not helped by the very long tails he added to some words that confuses the word below.  What do you think?

I think you are right and have added mair to him to my transliteration above.

Sixth bit:

And that be his saids ex[ecuto]rs & Tutors abonewritin [= above-written] [     ] they
Will [ad[vi]ss?] to [god?] and this ye said David [           ] his
La[tte]r will In ma[nn]er abonewritin Befoir [= before] yir [= thir = these] witnes[se]s
Wm Hendersoune his sone In law Johnne Smyt[h] in [     ]

I'm not 100% certain about adviss to god. Adviss togidder would have been better. The word after David seems to begin ov... and must mean something like "administer".
