Bernard O'Donnell and Bridget Mary Boyle
« on: Saturday 15 April 23 10:50 BST (UK) »
I'm researching the family of Bernard O'Donnell (b. abt.  1840, possibly Glenties area Donegal) and Bridget Mary Boyle (b. abt. 1850 possibly Glenties area Donegal). I have a good tree for their descendants who were all born in Pennsylvania. I think Bernard and Bridget Mary married there abt 1870. Is it possible to find any records dating circa 1840/50 that might identify the sidings or parents of this couple? I have searched Roots Ireland and Irish Genealogy but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Any help much appreciated.

Have you found record of their passage to Pennsylvania, presumably separately if they married overseas.

Marriage record would help too if that can be found, when was their first child born?

When did the couple pass away as death certificates can have useful information.

Another question what was his occupation please?

Did they move from Pennsylvania to San Francisco, California? Or am I looking at the wrong family?

You have the right family. I found a death record for Bridget Mary 1914 aged 64. John James O'Donnell was the informant (her son). I wonder if Bernard had died before then? It said she was born in Ireland and that her mother was Mary Boyle and her father James. The first child born 1871 in USA. Can't find any travel documents

Right so you already have the parents for Bridget then that's good.

Do you have an address or have them on a census record?  She would be noted as a widow if Bernard had died **

** her death record says she was married not widowed

Looks like Bernard is still alive in 1920; he is living with his son Edward, Edward's children, and his two daughters, Mary and Sadie. He is widowed, born about 1848.

REF: Year: 1920; Census Place: San Francisco Assembly District 26, San Francisco, California; Roll: T625_135; Page: 2A; Enumeration District: 103

Obituary for Bernard in 1925:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q5QB-T25M

Gives name of sister, M Scholastica. Would probably be a good idea to view the original obituary.

Would Bernard's 1925 death certificate give the name of his parents? (I don't know a lot about U.S. family history research)
