William Evans
« on: Saturday 15 April 23 17:12 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm posting this message in the Denbighshire board but the family moved around all over the country, so they almost certainly moved after 1881 (when they were there!)

William Evans was born in Whitchurch, Shropshire in 1835, the son of Samuel and Martha Evans.
He married Margaret Griffiths in Wem, Shropshire on the 21st November 1861.
Margaret had been born in Wem in 1842, daughter of Thomas Griffiths and his wife, Sarah Hewitt.

They had at least seven children; Christopher, Mary Jane, and Alice born in Wem, in 1864, 1866 and 1867 respectively - Mary Jane died.
Walter William, and Rosetta, were born in Stockport, Cheshire in 1872 and 1874 respectively and Milvina and Adeline were born in Gwersylit, Denbighshire in 1877 and 1880 respectively.

They all can be found together on the 1881 census still living in Gwersylit, but then.....nothing!

Their daughter, Rosetta, married Peter Ede in Hope, Derbyshire in 1892 and she also moved around all over the country.
She is the only child I can follow conclusively, and I have no idea what happened to her parents.

Can anyone help?

Sue

I see it was registered in Chapel en le Frith so it would be Derbyshire.

Do you have the marriage entry that would show William's status?

I'm going through all the family names from the 1881 but so far I'm drawing a blank, like you.

I se that William was a platelayer which could explain their movements.

I'll keep looking.

Plus  a Christopher Evans b Shropshire c1864 is a boarder in Dover in 1911. Single, labourer. Place of birth not very clear- you could make Wem out of one of the words possibly
