Photo of George Collier
« on: Monday 17 April 23 06:33 BST (UK) »
George Collier 1832- c1892 was in the army for pretty much all his adult life.
He began in the 10th Hussars (becoming Troop sergeant Major)and in  later life joined a North East regiment. His obituary in c1892 was titled Death of an old Soldier detailed his postings to the Crimea and India.
George married Mary Elizabeth Lockwood in 1858. The couple lived in many locations and had many children. I would like to try and trace a photo of George. I wrote to the 10th Hussars museum but they never replied and was wondering if any of his other descendents had family pictures they would be willing to share a copy of.
Regards

When he married Mary Elizabeth Lockwood at St Michael's Church, Aldershot on the 20 August 1858, he declared that he was a Corporal in the 10th Hussars. The National Probate Calendar shows that he resided at 8 Hamilton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne when he died on the 15 January 1892. He was buried at Elswick Cemetery on the 18 January 1892. A terrific obituary in the Newcastle Courant, 23 January 1892.

There are a number of public family trees on Ancestry, unfortunately none have photograph of George but a couple of trees have a photo of his wife.

Hi,
Yes, it's a good obituary isn't it. A brave man, I think. Many thanks for the reply
