Looking for Mary Ann Southee emigrated to New Zealand 1841

I know this is closed but the Scholefield Papers contain some information about the SOUTHEE, SHARPE and CLIFTON families, including letters written containing lots of info that is probably not available in official records.

Thank you Eyesee.  Very interesting reading and confirmation of some of the information I have gathered. 

I did get in touch with a connection to Mary Ann Southee and she said that Mary Ann was not aged 100 years as reported in many New Zealand papers.  Mary Ann was using her sisters birth date which was incorrect.

Hi Kaybron

I am a direct descendant of Mary Ann Southee. She is one of my 2x great grandmothers.

Mary (1825) and Mary Ann (1835) are two different people.

Mary Ann did marry Richard Clifton in 1854 in New Zealand. They had two daughters before Richard died in 1858.
Mary Ann then had a relationship with a Samuel Weston which resulted in the birth in 1860 of Samuel Weston Clifton. They did not marry. We have not been able to determine if Samuel (senior) or Samuel (junior) is the birth father
Mary Ann then married Rueben Short in 1863. They had two daughters and one son

I am currently working on this family and found your original post with a Google search. First time on Roots Chat so I hope I haven't breached any rules

My connection to the Southee family is through a Maria Ellen Sunnex (1836) who married a George Southee (1833 Birchington, Kent).  When you have replied to messages and can activate the Personal Message facility I can pass on my personal email and we can communicate via this.  I have a private tree on Ancestry and I can also give you access to this. 

As a direct descendant of Mary Ann Southee I am extremely pleased that you have reached out and made contact via Rootschat.  It has been difficult to find info about the Southee family, especially those born in later years in New Zealand.
