The commonality of his surname doesn’t help either.  If he was married - I would have expected a mention of it in the newspaper item.

Just reading that article again - something a bit strange

Gladys was born end of 1906 so in August 1906 Catherine was about 5mths pregnant yet she says that in August William told her he intended to appear in court inappropriately dressed.

Presume back in August he indicated he wouldn’t pay & she threatened him with proceedings??

This enquiry has shown the worth of following up on leads, even if at first value they seem of minimal importance.

Looking at my tree again I found I already had William in there (!), although I had little on him and has really forgotten about him as I thought he was of no significance. However, I did have that William Thomas 22 Bachelor, Farmer of Tynycwm, Pontyberem (father David Thomas, deceased, Farmer) married Mary Jane Edmunds, 21, Spinster of Pantygroes, Pontyberem (father John Edmunds, Collier) on 29 Apr 1899 at Holy Trinity, Felinfoel. Mary Jane must die young as William is described as a widower in 1901. Mary Jane links back to David Edmund in my tree who married Mary Owen (1771-1860) on 24 Nov 1797. David is potentially my 4th great grand uncle. I suspect he is a brother of William Edmund of Herberdeg, Five Roads who died in 1834, though I have never been able to prove this.

It looks like William died in 1917.

Although the article is in a Welsh, Google translate states he is buried in Capel Ifan and was married with 2 children. In 1911 it says he is married but there is no wife with him. Any help tracing this second wife and children would be appreciated

I think this is the same place, but it looks like Tynycwm was sold in 1919.

I can trace William’s parents David Thomas and Eleanor Unknown back to 1871, but can’t find a marriage for them. Again any help on this would be appreciated.

I also can’t find them in 1861.

I suspect David Thomas may have been married before because there is a gap in births for his children, plus David and John were not born Llanelly.

David Thomas 1859, Abergwilly
John Thomas 1861, Llanfihangel yr Arth
Then
Rachel Thomas 1867, Llanelly
Ann Thomas 1869, Llanelly
Elizabeth Thomas 1870, Llanelly
Thomas Thomas 1872, Llanelly
William Thomas 1877, Llanelly
Henry Thomas 1879, Llanelly
George Thomas 1880, Llanelly
Margaret Thomas 1883, Llanelly

(All birth years are approx)

Any help would be appreciated

Roy

I have found the Tynycwm gravestone at Capel Ifan. It has William but no details of his wife or children

Thanks, that’s a great find. Their ages are about right and GRO entries for their children suggest Eleanor’s maiden name is more likely to be Thomas and as you say census records indicate she is from Llanarthney. The only downside is that David is listed as a Bachelor. This could be an error in the marriage entry or that David has somehow “adopted” the children identified as sons before this marriage.
