Okay now I'm confused.

On the other thread the OP says Thomas Salt the whitesmith apprentice was the correct ancestor.
Then says Thomas married Emma Richards 8 May 1853 at St John Clerkenwell. (His father was a Carrier)

I traced the children of Thomas and Emma nee Richards using the GRO Index and parish baptism records. This Thomas was a Farrier not a Whitesmith.

Thanks for your efforts everyone. Didn't realise a duplicate would cause such a problem! Sorry!

QOFTW the newspaper cuttings are really helpful because one of the signatories - Thomas Chapman - was the guardian of the young Thomas Salt, so clearly it was his father who died in 1837.

Similarly the burial of one of the Thomas's in Everton cum Tetworth allows me to delete that particular marriage record I have.

I attach all the info I gathered when I visited Huntingdon FHS so you don't waste any more time searching for what I know. This the link to my tree on ancestry: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/189614548/family?cfpid=262464486228

My original question regarding where he came from however still remains!

Thanks for that! My original question was to ask if anyone had a missing Thomas from a Staffordshire family tree......

Fair point, Angie.
Of course what I posted on your other thread was vastly improved upon by the wonderful QueenoftheWest.
I expected that, but not for it to be put on this one! So I was rather disappointed that the moderators didn't merge the two threads.
I think finding Thomas's origins would have flowed on from the other info anyway, i.e. establishing the right death/burial, with an age given, and thus getting an approximate year of birth for him. That's always a useful start!

Of course we want to assist you, we love helping people.

Bury and Norwich Post, Wednesday 24 January 1844

'We very much regret to have to record a third fire on the premises of Mr JOHN HALL of EATON FORD, near St Neots.

The flames were discovered from a large barley barn, and quickly consumed all the buildings, except a house formerly occupied by Mr Gorham, which was saved by pulling down a porition of a barn.

The builds were the property of Mr Carrington, of St Neots.  Mr Hall was in London.

Thanks all. After swearing I was going to leave it for a couple of weeks and do the things I should be doing, I got a bit hooked today again  :D

I haven't got the full picture by any means but have been looking Warwickshire/Shropshire way having found census and marriage records for an Edward Hobday and Ann Salt and links to a Sarah/Catherine Salt via the census. Could be that Thomas came from the Ludlow area or London.

As a Londoner, my geographical knowledge of the Midlands is much improved  ;)
