There is also this marriage but as shanreagh points out we need more information from Cathy.

Martin Nolan - widower.

I have some reservations about it but I thought I would offer it anyway.  ;)

That looks interesting. I can see a run of children born to Martin and Catherine, culminating in:

- Johanna born on 21 August 1899, father recorded as Martin Nolan of 'Clonskeagh':

- Christopher born on Christmas Day 1900 at '25 Clonskea', father Martin Nolan described as deceased:

A married labourer called Martin Nolan from 'Clonskeagh' drowned between Clonskeagh and Milltown on 16 November 1900:

Is that where the mix up has happened with the wrong notation on the baptism?

The baptismal record for Catherine has a later comment to say that she married an Edward Kavanagh in 1910 ... (top of left page):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634130#page/32/mode/1up

... but the relevant 1910 civil marriage registration (below) shows a different father for the bride, so I'm thinking that the comment on Catherine's baptismal record is incorrect:

This Kathleen NOLAN was a widow and her father was also John REILLY.

So let me get this straight in my head.  Martin Nolan married Ann Elizabeth Rossiter, date unknown, but a reasonable assumption is before daughter Catherine's birth in 1878 (hers being the earliest birth known thus far).  They had further children, then Ann Elizabeth Nolan died in 1887.  Widower Martin Nolan remarried in 1889 - to Catherine Reilly, they had a run of children, then Martin Nolan drowned in the Dodder in 1900, and widow Catherine Nolan remarried in 1910 to Edward Kavanagh.

So the comment in the baptismal record for Catherine born in 1878 is actually referring to her stepmother's marriage in 1910, isn't that it?

I can’t understand that baptism reference.
I agree with the previous records to Ann Eliza’s death and then a bit unsure but it looks plausible.

But as you say, we still haven't found the first marriage.  ;D  I've checked Britain and Ireland, nothing so far, 'Ancestry' isn't producing any hits for me in the USA either.
