I want to thank everyone for your interest and research efforts into my request on finding information about my Grandmother Rachel Kerr (nee King) and G. Grandmother Nina. I have so much information to decipher. I have fond memories of my grandmother Rachel until her passing in 2000. I remembered we always celebrated her birthday on April 23rd and she told us many times that she was born the same year the Titanic sank (1912). While she grew up believing her father died of pneumonia, this may not have been true and she may have been an illigitamate child. The information about the refuge for young women with illegitimate infants in very interesting. Her mother Nina did work as a domestic/servant in England. My grandma Rachel recalls living in a 'castle' as a young child and the owner was very good to her and her mother Nina. He took them on trips in the Summer to somewhere in Ireland. Possibly, this was Somerset Beaumont who died at the age of 86 in 1921. Not long after they immigrated to Canada and lived with John McLea in Acton, Ontario until his death in 1939. It is possible Nina came to Canada in response to domestic work and eventually she and Rachel lived at the McLean Farm until the two married on June 21, 1928. My G. grandmother Nina lived with my grandmother Rachel helping run the house and raise my father and Uncle until her death in 1955. I certainly have more work to do and sincerly thank those of you for your assistance. Colleen, Victoria, B.C.
