Still trying to find Nina Naomi in 1911

Naomi (?) King, 34, born Forest Hill, London, is in Shere, Surrey, in 1911.
Servant to Somerset Beaumont.
Transcribed Nanni King on ancestry. To be honest, that's what it looks like to me!

Yes I think so too.  Some photos of Somerset Archibald BEAUMONT who lived at Hurstcote.  I wonder if Nina had to water all those plants!!

Hurstcote was to the south of Shere and was demolished in 1963.

I was asking about the age of John McLEAN because there was a man by that name on the same ship to Canada but he was only 27 and boarded in Greenock.  I thought it might be a shipboard romance  ::)

I want to thank everyone for your interest and research efforts into my request on finding information about my Grandmother Rachel Kerr (nee King) and G. Grandmother Nina.  I have so much information to decipher.  I have fond memories of my grandmother Rachel until her passing in 2000.  I remembered we always celebrated her birthday on April 23rd and she told us many times that she was born the same year the Titanic sank (1912).  While she grew up believing her father died of pneumonia, this may not have been true and she may have been an illigitamate child.  The information about the refuge for young women with illegitimate infants in very interesting.  Her mother Nina did work as a domestic/servant in England.  My grandma Rachel recalls living in a 'castle' as a young child and the owner was very good to her and her mother Nina.  He took them on trips in the Summer to somewhere in Ireland.   Possibly, this was Somerset Beaumont who died at the age of 86 in 1921.  Not long after they immigrated to Canada and lived with John McLea in Acton, Ontario until his death in 1939.   It is possible Nina came to Canada in response to domestic work and eventually she and Rachel lived at the McLean Farm until the two married on June 21, 1928.  My G. grandmother Nina lived with my grandmother Rachel helping run the house and raise my father and Uncle until her death in 1955.  I certainly have more work to do and sincerly thank those of you for your assistance.    Colleen, Victoria, B.C.

If you decide you want a copy of that birth certificate Dundee found, you can get a pdf of the registration to download from the GRO for £7.
Hopefully it will have mum's correct names on it!

Naomi and Rachel KING aged 44 and 16 departed Belfast, Ireland on the ship Montcalm on 26 May 1928 bound for Quebec and Montreal.  Their address in Ireland was 'Benvue',  Windsor Park, Belfast.

Major Daniel Dixon lived there, but had put it up for sale at this time.
Seems to be a little drawing of it on page 7 of this old journal

Regarding the “castle”

This was the house “Seaborough Court” they were in in 1921 when Rachel was 9.
We are not supposed to give you all the detail from the 1921 but you can pay to get the entry from FindMyPast without signing up to FindMyPast

They do appear from the newspapers, to be a very philanthropic family,

mckha489...........That is awesome!   What a beautiful place.  I will check with findmypast to purchase the 1921 Record that confirms Rachel and Nina were there.  My g. grandmother Nina was a domestic servant so it makes sense that would be her occupation there.  I have to tell you.....I still wrestle with the possibility my grandmother Rachel King was born out of wedlock.  Being born April 12, 1912 means my G. Grandmother Nina would have been in her mid 30's when she gave birth.  That seems late in life to have an only child.   I still need to ascertain if she perhaps was once married, had other older children, became a widow and was taken in by the Reformatory where she perhaps gave birth to my Grandma Rachel.     Again, thank you so much for your assistance.....Colleen

I think it sounds like purchasing Rachel's birth certificate would be a good idea, as indicated on the GRO index, there is no mother's maiden name given on the index which usually indicates an unmarried mother.

There are a number of mentions of Seaborough Court in newspapers over the years I looked at last night including a few advertisements for staff around the time your g grandmother would have been there. findmypast is often available at libraries if you want to save the money on a subscription. If you have access to findmypast at a library you can also search their newspaper archive.
