Hello Debra.   thank you for your response.  When I said arranged marriage to a farmer John McLean in Acton, Ontario, Canada I was told by relatives that she wanted to come to Canada to raise her daughter Rachel.  As the story went, she responded to an advertisement of some sort where he was seeking a wife.  She, my G. Granmother Nina was around 40-42 years old and John McLean was even older.    I haven't researched the date to which she immigrated to Canada from England.

21 Jun 1928, John says aged 60, Nina aged 45, both widows. She says her parents were Frederick COOPER and Naomi FINCH. Telling fibs, or trying to start a new life afresh.

Maddy52.    Thank-you very much.  I probably should research Ancestry.  I found a Certificate that indicates my grandmother Rachel King married my grandfather Frederick Kerr in Acton Ontario in 1933 and in 1934 my dad Reginald Kerr was born followed a year later by my uncle  Denis.  Nina ....now Nina Maclean was present at the wedding.  My grandparents along with my dad, uncle and G. Grandmother Nina travelled to Victoria, B.C. where they bought a small farm.   John Maclean had died and the Maclean family gave my G. Grandmother mother money to leave the family farm in Acton.   Sometimes I feel like it becomes a soap opera but I can only go by what I was told growing up.  thank-you,   Colleen Kerr

Thanks for checking.  G. Grandmother Nina did marry a farmer John Mclean after arriving in Canada with my grandmother Rachel sometime after 1922.  I found John McLean's Death Certificate (died Sep. 28, 1939 in Erin Township, Ontario).   Nina is recorded as his wife (2nd wife) at the time of his death but I haven't yet located any marriage certificate between he and Nina.  Soon after he died the McLean family gave her money to leave the McLean family farm to which she did helping my grandmother and grandfather buy their own farm on Vancouver Island, Victoria, B.C.  My G. Grandmother Nina helped raise my dad and uncle until her death here in Victoria in 1955.

mckha489......thank you.   I will be checking Ancestry tomorrow at my local Library (I don't have my own Ancestry Account).  I look forward to viewing the Marriage Certificate.  I never knew the name of my G. Grandmother's mother may infact have been Naomi FINCH.  All these little details certainly assist me with my search!    Colleen

Naomi COOPER baptised 19 Jun 1837, born 18 Nov 1836, non conformist at Lingfield. Parents David COOPER (labourer) and Harriet (nee AGATES).

Her maiden name was NOT Finch,  see above post by Maddy,  it was COOPER
