Hazel Grove and/or Bramhall - Stumped!
« on: Sunday 23 April 23 13:24 BST (UK) »
I thought I knew this area reasonably well - after all I lived there for nigh on 50 years - but I've just turned up a census sheet for 1841 https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBC%2F1841%2F0108%2F0035&parentid=GBC%2F1841%2F0008420514 which contains three place names I've never heard of.

Where are/were Crosley Sands, Bates Lay and Charles Town? The Parish is said to be Bramhall but the sub-district is identified as Hazel Grove.

It must be somewhere down on Bridge Lane as the previous sheet includes Bramall Hall.

Help!!!

Ok we can forget Charles Town and Bates Lay - the former appears to have been somewhere near the Jolly Sailor, on Bridge Lane, in the 1870s,  although I would've called it Davenport rather than Bramhall. The latter is the old name for what is now the centre of Adswood.
