Wow that’s brilliant thank you very much. That fills in a few blanks and confirms others.
On my grandads birth certificate his last name is Jackson so I’m presuming that his mother Mary was still married to William Jackson but grandad wasn’t his. There is no fathers name on his birth certificate at all.
The marriage to Mary Nutter is my grandma and grandad. He used the name Atkinson all his life but when he died it caused a lot of issues as he was registered at birth as Jackson not Atkinson. I’m presuming that Mabel did the same.
The probate is my 2nd great grandad Albert Atkinson.
I believe he is my grandad Albert’s and my Great Aunt Mabel’s real dad. Not William Jackson as the surname would imply, it’s looking more and more like Mary was trying to hide the fact that she had 2 children, to Albert Atkinson, until she got a divorce from William Jackson. Once divorced they all took the name Atkinson unofficially as I have not found a wedding for Mary and Albert.
Mind you I’ve not found any info about a divorce either so who knows what they were up to back then 😳
One thing that I’ve often wondered is why my grandad Albert was left out of the probate, or does the probate just mean that Mabel and Ulric were the executors of his will maybe?
I’ll stop babbling on now, Thank you very much for all this information especially the school information I had no idea you can look that stuff up. I’ve a lot to learn…..
Is there a specific website for school registrations?
Ok I’m going, Ladyhawk as always your a gem 🌹
