Death duty records
« on: Tuesday 25 April 23 10:34 BST (UK) »
Good Morning
I know Ralph Joanes of Horsham died in 1812 and his estate was liable for Death Duties.
I've got as far as the index on the National Archives at Kew.
Ralph Joanes 1812 Court of the Bishop of  Chichester  3/491
Paid by William Joanes

What do I do now?
I've got the reference but it still doesn't seem to bring up the record.
Can anyone take a look and just give me the details or some link to them.I interested in how much he left and his 3 children.
Any help appreciated.
Thank You

Regarding death duty, Ciderdrinker has found the index entry in IR27.  He now needs to use the reference to find the death duty register details in IR26, which, as far as I know, has to be done from the records (on microfilm) at Kew.  TNA has a detailed guide on this subject on-line.

You can also see those IR26 microfilms digitized and online at LDS FHCs (are they now called "FamilySearch Centers"?)
And at affiliate libraries, which include TNA at Kew ;D

Hi ciderdrinker
Well done!
Glad the will was useful. I did wonder about Mary Churchman, she did well out of it!
