Hi Jon

I have now found that Alfred was born in Birmingham in 1856 and that he married Annie in 1880 in Aston, that explains about the 1901 entry.

Kind Regards

David

Harry Needham and Cissie Baker married in Rouen, France - per British Armed Forces and Overseas Banns and Marriage 1914-1925 - page 61.    No individual year given but suspect it was 1914-1916 as low page number.

You can order a copy from GRO.

Given that a daughter was registered as "Cecilia", Cissie's birth certificate might be under the same.

There was a Cissie Baker who was residing in South Africa when she signed up for the VAD (but did so in London?), and worked for a time in London but may have returned to South Africa in around 1917.

There is also a Cissie E Needham who has a medal card for her work in the Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps

This suggests she was not working as a nurse (at this stage, at least) as her rank was "worker" but she was awarded the Victory medal so did serve in a theatre of war (i.e. in France).
