Kay 99, Amondg, Manukarik, thank you for the new information.
Judah's change in religious direction is surprising and a big turn up. Maybe why he was later also know as Joseph. The google  book on the obituaries for Matthew gives a wonderful depth to the man. He certainly achieved much in 55 years and could be seen as the Steve Jobs of his age with his financial backing of the railways.
I have had a quick look at Jewishgen and it looks really interesting and will get into this site in detail  tomorrow which no doubt will provide more info.
Would the pensions from the French army cover 'for services  rendered to the government' (eg provisions of finance for railways) as opposed to actual service in the French armed forces. It seems if Matthew also spent time in the army he certainly did much in a short time, seeing he only lived 55 years, to achieve all he did as a businessman. a quite incredible few generations. Hopefully Jewishgen might provide the answers.

You may have noticed also that some of Matthew UZIELLI's art collection is in the British Museum

SynagogueScribes.com is another great resource for Jewish family history. They have an extract of Matthew's will and also a quite detailed family history - though it doesn't mention sources. Might help give some clues where to look further.  :D

Hi, I'm researching the history of my street (Highbury Place, London N5). I think Clement lived at No 11 - see entry for the City of London Currier's Company at https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/City_of_London_Livery_Companies_Commissi/W8gUAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=clement+Uzielli+%2211+Highbury+Place%22&pg=PA119&printsec=frontcover

He seems (https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/The_Law_Times/NRpCAQAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Clement+Uzielli%22+highbury&pg=PA860&printsec=frontcover) to have worked at the Stock Exchange and, before that, the Doctor's Commons, a law society gently lampooned in Dickens' David Copperfield.

At least one child I think: https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/The_Monthly_alphabetical_record_of_birth/DmQFAAAAQAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Clement+Uzielli&pg=PA425&printsec=frontcover

If anyone has more on his life in Highbury It would  great to know. Already got some nice bits of info from the posts here - thanks.
