Death in 1908
« on: Wednesday 26 April 23 16:56 BST (UK) »
I've just found a burial record for at 13yo boy in 1908, that says "accidentally strangled" and see that there was an inquest held on 14 Dec 1908.  I wondered if there were any online newspapers from that time that I could access to see if there was a report of what exactly happened.

Does anyone know of such a link, please?

Thanks

I havent found a resource for on-line South African papers. The National Library of South Africa has a vast collection of papers on Microfilm , you would need to go into the Library to view them or engage a researcher to do so on your behalf. You can order printouts tkes a week for a nominal fee.

eggsa has a (very) few transcriptions of some SA newspapers. I have been lucky to find some mentions of a person I was researching.

Gale Primary Sources (available through many libraries - I access from home using my Australian National Library Card)  has digitised "Sam Sly's African Journal", a weekly publication from Cape Town, from 1843-1851. Also the South African Nursing Journal - 1947-1978. A few other South African publications too with various coverages - Cape Monthly Magazine; Cape Illustrated Magazine etc. Not much use in your search for 1908, however, again, I have found it very useful in other research.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, but I've not had any luck finding any further info about how this little boy came to accidentally hang himself :(

No luck there either, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
