Pennington family of Seaton, Bootle, Cumberland
« on: Thursday 27 April 23 14:01 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out more detailed information on this family from the 17th into the 18th century.
Their main seat was Seaton manor, Bootle.

Any family details on Miles (Myles) Pennington born about 1630-31 and died about 1701 (will dated 21/12/1700). I think he might be the Miles P. buried at St Mary, Newington, Southwark, Surrey 25 June 1701. His will mentions a wife Elizabeth and I think she might be the Eliz Doyley married in 1700 [Holy Trinity, Knightsbridge, Westminster, London 22 November 1700 - “Miles Pennington, Gent., of St Martins in ye Fields living in Tuttle Street at ye Sign of ye Green Dragon & Eliz: Doyley of ye Same.”]

However he had a 1st wife a Judith Lawson and I can't find any details of her.

Also of her children. I have baptisms of a few - Jane 1664, Beatrice 1667, Judith 1670, Lawson 1676, Miles 1679 all bap. Bootle. But nothing on the others I have names for -  Barbara, William, Wilfred, Robert, Margaret ?.

Robert succeeded Miles to the estates but all I have on him is that he married Anne Cox around 1707

Any further information on any of these would be appreciated. Thanks.

At archive.org A genealogical and heraldic history of the extinct and dormant baronetcies of England,1838 by John Burke.

The entry for Lawson, of Isell includes:

Quote
Judith, m. to Miles Pennington in Cumberland

This is from a text-based genealogy which I find difficult to follow, so I'll leave it to you to deduce who her parents were, but it does seem to trace her lineage back to the 13th century:

Quote
The patriarch of this family, JOHN LAWSON, lived in the time of HENRY III and was then Lord of Fawlesgreave, in the county of York...

There are several documents listed in the Cumbria Archives CASCAT catalogue relating to the Pennington Family and also the Lawson Family.

added: There is also a tree on Family Search for Sir Wilfred Lawson, who had a daughter Judith, who married Miles Pennington.

Thanks both for the information. I've found Judith was one of the 8 daughters Sir Wilfred Lawson. Hence sons called Wilfred and Lawson. Unfortunately Bottle images are not on line.

The family tree on Family Search has links to various "pedigree" records for both the Pennington family and Lawson family.
