Tracking Trelitha
« on: Thursday 27 April 23 23:48 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I'm having trouble with Trelitha.  She was born as Trelitha Jane Dunn and baptised 10 March 1834 at Crowan, the daughter of Seth Dunn and Margaret, nee Williams.  She has always been hard to track as sometimes her name was recorded or transcribed as variants.  Her marriage record of 12 November 1859 at Liskeard, records her or she is transcribed as Aletha Jane Dunn......and so on and so on.  Her husband is assumed to be Isaac Wakeham, but even here the recording goes awry as he is recorded/transcribed on the same marriage record as Isaac Wakom.  Their children are subsequently recorded as Wakeham and other variants, Walkem, Walkum etc.  Trelitha, I believe, makes a final appearance on the 1881 UK Census, simply as T. Wakeham aged 46 and as wife of "John Wakeham".  The clincher is their recorded son, Seth D. Wakeham.   Then the trail goes cold, Isaac Wakeham is further recorded on censuses up until 1901 with a recorded wife as Eliza, whose age fits the search criteria.  In short, I am having problems establishing death dates for both "Trelitha Jane Wakeham" and her husband "Isaac Wakeham".
Any suggestions appreciated.

Kind regards
'Stuart McDonald

Have you checked FreeBMD.org.uk?
Or Cornwall-OPC-Database.org?

From the latter:
Burial 1904, Liskeard General Cemetery
Death 15 June 1904, age 61
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Keep in mind that the age recorded at death was based on the knowledge of the person reporting it.

Have you considered  Lanchard Municipal Cemetery

Isaac Wakeham buried 15 June 1904  (says born 1843 s/b 1839)

Elizabeth Wakeham buried 21 November 1912 (says born 1828 s/b 1834)

The children's names are consistent even though the parents names vary on the census

1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901

Thanks for the suggestions, I sort have resigned myself that the 1904 & 1912 deaths are my search subjects, maybe Trelitha=Eliza, when spoken they might sound similar to the recorder?  Even in the past few hours I have discovered more variants of Isaac's surname, Walkum and Walkeham, finding both his birth and baptismal registrations in 1838 this way.

Commercial, Shipping and General Advertiser for West Cornwall. 18 June 1904
Remarkable death at Liskeard
Paraphrased
Inquest of the death of Isaac Wakeham age 61 a farm labourer of Liskeard.
Apparently he pared a corn on his toe, it bled, he subsequently got lockjaw  and died.

ADDED
27 June 1904 Royal Cornwall Gazette

Isaac Wakeham 61, sexton at Liskeard Cemetery ... same information as above.

A lesson to us all if attending to our own pedicures.  Considering they were consistently resident at Liskeard, it really has to be him.

Ancestry/ Newspapers.com   I don't have a sub for this.

Nov 1888  marriage of "Hiss Margaret Ann Wakebam"  to William Davies

This should be Miss Margaret Ann Wakeham, Isaac and Trelitha's daughter

If someone has a sub it may help to confirm family inormation

Seth and Margaret married in St Breaca church in Breage ,Cornwall - St Breaca was an Irish woman in the 12th century - presumably Margaret Williams was from this village - has a famous Tin Mine called The Great Mine
of no help concerning Trelitha - but may be something to put in your notes ?
