There are two recorded baptisms of children to Alex* Or*c*n* and Agnes Ne*l*
James, 1801, Kirriemuir
John, 1810, Kirriemuir
There are two deaths of Or*c*n* with mother's maiden name Ne*l*
Helen, 91, 1897, Glamis, other surname Crabb
Ann, 87, 1887, Forfar, other surname Grant
Yes, that is the family I was looking at. There do appear to be gaps in the records.
I think that Agnes NEIL must have died around 1810-1812.
It looks as if Alexander ORCHARDSON had another marriage to Ann HENDRY about 1813, with the following children:
• Jean 16 Jan 1814 – Kirriemuir. Abode “MuirHouse”
• Margaret 13 May 1821 – Kirriemuir
• Unnamed 1824 – Kirriemuir
• Peter 15 Jan 1828 - Ruthven
In the
1841 census, I can’t see Alexander or Ann Orchardson
Peter Orchardson is 12, Ag labourer in Cortachy and Clova
Jean Orchardson is 25, a hand loom weaver in Forfar
But here is the family in 1851:
1851 census Forfar – 8 Watts SquareAlexander Orchardson, Head, married, 88, receiving parochial support, born Kirriemuir
Ann Orchardson, wife, married, 68, Winder Linen yarn, born Tannadice
Jean Orchardson, daughter, unmarried, 36, hand loom weaver linen, born Kirriemuir
Peter Orchardson, son married, 22, hand loom weaver linen, born Kirriemuir
U—? Bremnar grandchild, 13, hand loom weaver linen, born Forfar
David Meldrum grandchild, 6, scholar, born Forfar
I didn’t find a death certificate for Alexander, so he probably died before 1855.
So that puts Alexander’s birth around 1763. I can’t see a baptism record for him, but there are a few Orchardson baptisms in Kirriemuir around the relevant time to a father named Alexander.
