Place in Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn Parish
« on: Sunday 30 April 23 14:36 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me what it says on the line for the birth of John Gray on 14th May 1782? it is in the parish of Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn.  It looks like it begins with a B. Thank you

There is a description of buildings on Scotlands Places - although at a considerably later date https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital-volumes/ordnance-survey-name-books/aberdeenshire-os-name-books-1865-1871/aberdeenshire-volume-39/25

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi, indeed it is Balgairn, his father is my 5th great grandfather, though if this is a follow on, he is not the John Gray who was in Balno, John Gray, Balgairn’s son died in 1860 at Dunottar. Would be more than happy to share my research if you direct message me.
John Gray Balgairn’s son had his first son John in 1815 with Margaret Thom or Thomson in Glenmuick
D R Farquharson’s fascinating book Reminiscences of Cromar and Canada refers to the extended families experience in Canada and memories of home.

Hi, there seems to have been a John Gray in Balno in 1765, see page 34.

This would seem likely as the father.

Hi David, thank you for this info.  Yes it is a follow on thread so it looks like the John Gray from Balgairn is not a relative of mine.  The John Gray from Balno is the relative of mine, and he married Christian Farquharson and had children at Balno,  It looks like this may be his father, also called John Gray, that you sent the link for in the records of Invercauld.  I can't seem to find any birth records for my John Grays but will keep looking. Thank you for all of your help and information.

Hi, you are very welcome, you have helped me too, I thought I would have a quick looks at the Deeside MI’s and found a grave for my John that had been missed! It’s not in the original pre-1855 MI book for Deeside!
If I come across any likely candidates I will let you know. It seems likely they were related, perhaps cousins.
