From what I can see, their oldest child was actually Jason, baptised in 1816.

I can see that Thomas dies in 1829. In 1835, Maria marries again to Daniel Herbert, with whom she has 3 children. Emma, the youngest, was born after civil registration began, so I was hoping that I could find her mother's maiden name from the GRO. Frustratingly, she appears to not have been registered.

I can see that Maria gives her birthplace as 'Baydon, Wiltshire' on the various censuses, with an estimated birth year of 1795. No luck finding a Maria baptised in Baydon around that time.

1861 Maria Herbert was listed as a pauper  living on Principal Street Speen
Does the Berkshire Records office have any poor law records that could give clues?.

Keeping in mind neither could write and the clerk wrote down what he heard.

Thomas Rough - sojourner  married Mariah Lawrence 30 May 1814 Baydon Wiltshire by Banns.

Witness is Ann Farmer, William Beckingham - he signs several

Ann Farmer could be a relative.

Maria says she is from Baydon Wiltshire on census records

There was only one couple named Lawrence baptising children at Baydon around the relevant time frame - Richard and Elizabeth - who baptised Rachel 4/12/1796, John 21/10/1799 (died ?), William 16/3/1800 an John 23/8/1801.

Richard Lawrence married Elizabeth Farmer 2/11/1789 Baydon - that being so, feel sure there must have been children born 1789-1795 but can find nothing online.
