James MARTIN b 1832 Woolwich - trying to baptism record
« on: Friday 05 May 23 13:31 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find the baptism of my great-great grandfather James Martin born 2/2/1832 Woolwich, Kent, he ws a stoker in the Royal Navy from 1859 to 1871, his parents were John Martin and Elizabeth Carroll they married in Newington, Southwark, Surrey in 1827. How would I find James' baptism records? Any help would be truly appreciated.

Good Morning
I've not had a lot of luck on the baptisms in Woolwich
But perhaps this entry for 1851 census may help-24 Ppowis St Woolwich
John Martin 59 machinist Taunton
Elizabeth 50 Little Sanford?
Francis 21 machinist Barnstaple
James 18  machinist Barnstaple
Ann Ness 39 visitor milliner Taunton
Emily 9 Westminster
Martha 6 Westminster

Ann Ness /Niess looks to be John's daughter  who married 4 Dec 1839 at St Mary Lambeth
Henry Ness bach accountant Granby St Samuel Ness glass mounter
Ann Martin spins  John Martin engineer
wit William Martin and Cecillia Haines.

Henry Ness/Neiss went on to be a wine merchant and Francis Martin an engineer in the Navy.

Baptisms I can see
Francis Martin born 8th July 1829 bapt 20 May 1832 Barnstaple Wesleyan Chapel
Mary Ann born Dec 31 1831 bapt at the same time and place.
James Henry Martin bapt St Peter's Barnstaple 13 Sep 1835 a smith (I've only seen the transcript)
Sarah 16 Jan 1839 Barnataple Sr Peters  a smith

I'm struggling to find Ann born c 1812 who was probably from a first marriage.

1841 Boutfort St Barnstaple
John Martin 45 y Smith
Elizabeth 45 y
Francis 12 y
Mary 10 y
James 6 y
Sarah 2 y
William Priest 15 ap smith y

Does that look anything like them?
