The Family keep ask me to Search 1/8th but I don't know what they mean.

There was a Duncan McIsaac who served in the 18th HLI number 37144. Presumed killed in August 1917, aged 33. "Son of Duncan McIsaac, and the late Isabella Shaw McIsaac; husband of Margaret McIsaac, of 73, Bowman St., Crosshill, Glasgow."

But I don't see a 1914/15 Star for him either.

The Family keep ask me to Search 1/8th but I don't know what they mean.
They said he was a Boy Drummer and they think he Enlisted pre War
They insist the Photo is him looking old because of what he Endured.
They feel the Ribbon was awarded pre his Death in the Field
They have absolutely no evidence but won't consider they are wrong.
I'm going to give up on this one.
Thanks for your Time

1. I have read through the war diaries from May 1915 to his death 2 May 1918 -- no mention of him.
2. There is no way that he could have been awarded a ribbon of any kind pre his death -- my previous posts give details of when medals and ribbons were issued.
3. The family, to put in kindly, are blinkered and unwilling to acknowledge the facts.

I don't blame you for giving up on this one.
Best wishes
Allan

Back again with this One as the Ancestor is of the Opinion the Army got his Record wrong
and that he Enlisted when War Broke Out and went Overseas 1915 and due 1914/15 Star
The Sick List shows his Length of Service calculation to December 1915 which I agree with.
His Soldiers Effects War Gratuity was calculated at £11
What Length of Service does that calculate his Enlistment as ?

Soldier A McCulloch 3480 wasn't awarded the 1914/15 Star per the Medal Index Card

Soldier C Dow  3464 later 301289 his Silver War Badge shows he Enlisted 12 October 1915

That does it prove that 3492 Duncan McIsaac must have been given 3492 at Enlistment in December 1915 as we thought.

Hi ALAMO2008

This topic has been asked by a 'NeilB' on the Great War Forum in July of this year. He posted tghe same image that he did on this forum and he states in his first post 'on his photo he has a medal the 1914/15 star which I need to prove' -- and also 'the one thing need is his date of enlistment' -- in answer to his date of enlistment, he was told that the £11 War Gratuity indicated an enlistment of November 1915. In answer to the 1914/15 Star he was told 'As he died in April 1918 the medal ribbon will not be that of the 1914-15 Star as that medal was not authorised until December 1918. The ribbon does not look like the Star ribbon to my eyes but if he saw previous service in 1914 then it could possibly be the 1914 Star ribbon which was authorised in April 1917 but I doubt that's what it is'.

NeilB had many responses to his post and was advised on a number of things that Duncan McIsaac could not have received a Star but he was adamant that he was right despite the evidence against. The thread from the original post was eventually locked by an administrator.

The responses to your post that have been given matched the ones in the Great War Forum. It would seem that the family of Duncan McIsaac are unwilling to accept the evidence.

Cheers Allan
As I thought November/December 1915 Enlistment
Went Overseas 1916
Hence No 1914/15 Star or evidence
