Thomas Evans born 1853 in Nortley Wales?
« on: Tuesday 09 May 23 14:20 BST (UK) »
Hi I wondered if anyone could help me. I`m looking for a Thomas Evans born abt 1853 and according to the census was born in Nortley in Wales. I cant seem to find any place name by that nor anything similar.
Thomas married Martha Cummings in Gateshead, Durham in 1887. Any help would be much appreciated

Is it Wales, Nortley or Wales (North) for his birthplace on the 1901 census?

From what I can see, there is only 1 Wales-born Thomas Evans born c.1854 who appears in Boldon, South Shields in the decades preceding the 1891 census, when Thomas is living there with his wife. This Thomas is the son of Edward and Elizabeth Evans. His occupation in 1881 matches that of 1891. The marriage certificate would confirm whether this is indeed the Thomas whom you are researching.

Hanes teulu and I think it is actually "Wales (North)." Are you looking at the original or just a transcription?
