1901 Census Sarah Burgess Trigg Cannot Find
« on: Thursday 11 May 23 02:11 BST (UK) »
I have a relative Sarah Burgess born 1843 in Fowlmere Cambridge. Father William Burgess born 1797.
She married a Henry John Trigg in 1864.
In 1871 she is listed as "shoemakers wife" and i think it says Married - markings obscure the comment. There is no mention of Henry John Trigg. Address is Middle St
The 1881 census has her listed as a widow and head of the house  with a John Charnock aa a lodger.
She has child listed as Mary Ann Charnock Trigg.
In 1891 she is still a widow and John Charnock is still a lodger, although i think he id doing more than lodging.
I cannot find her in 1901 nor can i find the John Charnock.
In 1911 they are listed as husband and wife and married 36 years which i think is false as there is a record of them marrying in 1918 - with certificate that shows her deceased father William Burgess.
The 1921 census shows them still together.
I have tried all search combinations in 1901 but so far no luck.Am i missing something here?
Thank you
Regards
Rob

Kay,
Thanks for that, it is quite possible. Sarah has a son Albert and John Charnock did work as a strikesmith in the 1891 census. He was listed as single then.
Another twist in this pair, Sarah using different surnames.

I think Sarah's surname may just have been a mistake or badly written by the enumerator.  On the image it doesn't appear to start with a capitial  letter!

Thanks John,
If you look at the 1911 entry for John and Sarah it shows them as married for 36 years even though the marriage certificate shows married in 1918 (shows her correct father as well).
Perhaps they were trying to show an air of respectability saying they were married. Just a small porkie pie!
Thanks all, i think we have it all sorted, maybe.

Does the 1864 marriage cert name Henry's father and occupation

Are you still looking for Henry John Triggs death?

I believe Henry John Trigg was born 5.6.1839 the son of Joseph Trigg & Lydia Gifford.

TRIGG, JOHN       mmn GIFFORD
GRO Reference: 1839  S Quarter in ROYSTON & BUNTINGFORD  Volume 06

He appears in 1851 & in  1861 census he is aged 21 and occupation Shoe Maker.

He marries as Henry John Trigg/Sarah Burgess.
Children between 1864-7

William--marries 1889-father JohnTrigg, occ Shoe Maker.
Samuel--marries 1894-father John Trigg
Joseph--marries 1886-father John Trigg
Henry
Henry John--marries 1902 -father John Trigg-occ Shoe Maker
Edward John--marries 1906 Chesterfied

1871 Sarah records being the wife of a shoe maker

In 1881 census 3 sons,Samuel,Edward and John are in a workhouse.

1881 Sarah has set up home and having children with John Charnock.

***********

John's father Joseph born c1803 is on 1841/51/61 census. He dies believe it or not in Victoria Australia in 1874.

Wonder if John Henry Trigg 1839 went to join his father after the birth of last son from 1870/71. onwards.

Cannot find a suitable death for Johnc1839 in UK records.
