Charles Culverhouse killed by train Hirwaun, Aberdare.
« on: Thursday 11 May 23 07:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all, looking for any further details on the death of Charles Culverhouse killed by a train whilst sweeping the line at Hirwaun station May 1870 age 62. These details are from a newspaper clipping but no further details found,
I believe this to be Charles Culverhouse born North Bradley, Wiltshire 1807 last known address 1851 Swansea, Glamorgan, not found in 1861 census, also no death found that fits the time scale. Any further help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does the item show whether an inquest was held?

Yes, an inquest was held at the Llwyncelyn Inn on the Monday after the death.

Modified to add:
I can't readily see the family in 1861 either, though I assume this is his wife Maria now widowed in 1871?

Thanks Maddy, I have Maria in the 1871 (she Died 1874) but what threw me there was the entry of Elizabeth Wheeler as daughter, in fact she was not related, she was Elizabeth Light and married Jasper Wheeler 1863 Westbury, Wilts.

He should  be in Aberdare as there's a couple of news items about him in the press from either side of 1861 (with varying occupations - bankrupt haulier, butcher). 1858 he's also at Hirwain Common
