James Mooney Montreal, Quebec
« on: Thursday 11 May 23 13:37 BST (UK) »
Hello, i would be very grateful if someone could find any details on my grand uncle James Mooney.

His basics are:

James Mooney (no middle name)
B. 1897 Scotland

Father: Hugh Mooney (Born Co Londonderry Northern Ireland)
Mother: Mary McIvor (born Scotland).

Home in Scotland at time he likely emigrated: Waterworks Cottage, Lambhill, Glasgow.

Its likely he was visited in August/September 1929 by his sister Brida Mooney and a record on Ancestry shows her transit.

Many thanks.

Hi Sandra, thanks for the replies! Thats them in the quote above!

I was tempted to sign up for the Quebec records site as it seems a lot is locked away there and i was not sure if that would give the answer anyway.

We do not know much about James now as we dont think he had a kid or if he did it did not remain in contact. Brida is long dead was well known to the family as she travelled around to New Zealand, Australia and Canada with her brothers and sisters trying out new places.

Catherine and Mary (not the mum) both went to New Zealand and stay there. Brida decided England was the place for her.

With Bridas death went the connection to William, ended up in the US somewhere and to James she went out again later, by plane to visit James in Montreal when she was older.

The person in your first quote does not look like my grand uncle.

All ancestry has his James, father Hugh Mooney, marrying a Lucile in 1949. I cant find anything else to confirm if thats my man or not.

Canada has very strict privacy laws.  There is no BMD register as in the UK.  The 1931 Canadian Census is due for release 1 st June 2023.

I have found a newspaper cutting of the engagement of a James Mooney to Lucille Lamy in 1949.
Bear with me and I will come back to you shortly to see if we can find anything to confirm its the right people.
